"The Fish, Wildlife, Recreation Program continues to offer one of the finest educational experiences of its kind. The curriculum is intensive and field oriented and the program is staffed by a very dedicated faculty. We are also extremely proud of past FWR grads who continue to play a very important role in the management of British Columbia's natural resources."

Mark Angelo,

FWR Program Head & Recreation Instructor

The site is designed to give you a comprehensive overview of the two-year technology diploma program offered at the British Columbia Institute of Technology’s Burnaby Campus.
The FWR program is designed to give graduates a wide range of skills and experience. Graduates of the program are ready to work in an industry that is dynamic and diverse.
Our goal is to prepare graduates for many of things they will face working as a Fish, Wildlife and Recreation technologist. It takes a lifetime to learn all that you need to know about resource management!
For two years, students are immersed in resource management studies…there is little time for much else as there is a lot of material to cover in just 16 months (Four 4 month terms).
Students spend as much time in the field time as they do in class. So, get ready to get out there and get wet! We go out rain or shine and travel over all kinds of terrain.
Students travel about the Lower Mainland in the first year of the program and range a bit further in the second year. They travel to Manning Park, to Garibaldi Park, to the Keremeos Area, to Boundary Bay, to Brackendale and to Highland Valley Copper Mine to name a few fieldtrip locations. There is even a trip to Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, USA!
Renewable Resource students share a common first year with the BCIT Forestry program. The first year provides a foundation in technical skill and gives students a general overview of renewable resource management. In the second year of the program, you specialize in fish, wildlife and recreation management.
Follow the links on the left to learn more about Year 1 and Year 2, How to apply and what you need to be a successful applicant. There are only 30 applicants accepted each year so it is a good idea to start asking questions about how to get into the program a year in advance.
The FWR program has initiated a number of local and provincial projects and 2nd year students must all complete a yearlong project course. FWR staff and faculty are very active in the local, national and international community. Follow the link to learn more about what the FWR program and crew have done in the past and what they are up to now.
If you have any questions after looking through the website, contact us via email or phone. The numbers and addresses are at the other end of the link at left. fwr, fwr, fish, fish, fish, fish, wildlife, wildlife, wildlife, recreation, recreation, recreation
